With Goldenfang awake again, he surveyed the broken and bloody Ogre corpses around him and pulled himself to his feet, searching for something to drink. Finding only a barrel of something he assumed was Ogre moonshine. The rest of the band worked on getting RamJam back up the winding tunnel with the aid of Benny’s telekinesis and Mekk disarming the bear traps.
Getting back on the road the band began to make way to Tent City, believing they had just enough fuel to get there. Along the way, the band came across a perch in the desert, stopping to use the high ground to gain some knowledge of their surroundings. As the band attempted to do so, a large shadow in the sky became larger and eventually the band were faced with a fight or flight decision as an Adult Red Dragon approached. The Band decided to wait and face down this threat.
The Dragon landed and the band decided to engage him in conversation, introducing themselves. The Dragon, Kalidas, questioned the band’s motives as they were at his perch, territory he has claimed; Kalidas as such, demanded tribute. The party offered the Dragon the tainted gold, the gold gained from Snotgobbler’s Junkyards lower levels which had been stored alongside a lot of unrefined Goblonium and was likely irradiated. Intrigued the Dragon enquired as to where we found the materials. Information we offered in exchange for directions for the current location of Tent City. The Dragon took off in the direction of the Junkyard, and we set off in the direction of the Tent City.
The Tent City came into view and we decided to make an entrance. Anthrax began to smash things in the Junk Chariot. Benny played RamJam, Goldenfang began to roar as he drove RamJam and I allowed Zarathos to drive, whilst I played guitar. As we entered Goldenfang began to breath fire into the sky and we got people’s attention. Goldenfang began to yell nonsense about our gig in the town centre, and that we had slain a dragon on our way into town.
Arriving at the centre of town we were confronted by Mayor “Placeholder”, who questioned our dragon slaying claims. Goldenfang was adamant we had killed one, but we made it clear to the Mayor that Kalidas had not been slain. The townspeople however were celebrating being free of the Red Dragon’s tyranny. The Mayor demanded we compete in his gladiatorial games or he would oust us as liars and braggards.
We seemed to have arrived just in time, so Anthrax, Goldenfang and myself signed up as fighters for the arena The fights were without weapons or armour, although some weapons were inside the ring and luckily it was night. Goldenfang’s bout was first, and it was a close thing. He fought a human who seemed to be a seasoned pit fighter, and not many humans lived long enough to be described as seasoned. Goldenfang managed to use a pit trap to his advantage, throwing his opponent in and diving in after, but he was knocked bloody and shaken. The crowd demanded blood and Goldenfang executed the man.
Anthrax was next, two Owlbears were released to the crowd’s awe. The bout didn’t even last half a minute as the Owlbears were tossed about like ragdolls. My bout was the last of ours, an Ogre, I used my speed and outpaced the giant brute. He hit like a truck but was still flesh and blood. I left him bleeding out into the sands. My second bout was against an Elf, a rarity in the badlands. The elf was quick and graceful, extremely skilled and had me worried for a moment, but my endurance won out. The crowd asked for mercy, so I let the elf live.
The finale was a three way bout between myself, Anthrax and Goldenfang. As we didn’t exactly want to hash things out I told Anthrax to pick up some of the bones about the arena and to start hitting the pillars. As he did Goldenfang began to scream at the crowd and one of my skeletons brought me my guitar. Benny used his Telekinesis to Float RamJam into the arena, land atop the dias and began playing. The Mayor started to protest, but we rocked the crowd so hard his voice was lost amidst the cheers.
So began our two day Tent City bender. It would have probably lasted longer but on the third day we woke up to screams and cries for help. Turns out Kalidas was back, angry that someone had claimed to have killed him. As Tent City was mostly canvas, and Red Dragons breathe fire… it wasn’t pleasant. He was demanding to see us apparently… so we got our shit together and tried to wake up Goldenfang.
